As the Iowa House was debating the future of collective bargaining for public employees the Greene County Education Association presented its initial bargaining proposal to the Greene County Schools for 2017-18 contract negotiations at the board’s Feb. 15 meeting.
The teachers are asking for a two-year contract with a $300 increase to the base pay in the first year and a $200 increase in the second year. The total package increase, including an increase to cover the teachers’ portion of insurance premiums, is 2.62 percent for the district.
The teachers’ proposal also includes language that the contract can be reopened if legislative action causes mandatory changes to health insurance coverage or the required employee contribution toward health insurance.
The board will make its initial proposal at an open meeting at a time not yet determined. Board members Mark Peters, Teresa Hagen, and Sam Harding comprise the board’s negotiations committee.
